If your dental insurance, like most, is on a calendar year, you will lose out on all unused benefits after December 31st.

That means this is an excellent time of year to take advantage of everything your dental insurance benefits, especially if you have outstanding treatments.

Reasons To Use Your Dental Benefits Now!

Yearly Maximum. This is the maximum amount that the dental insurance plan will pay for your dental work within the year. If you have unused benefits at the end of December 31st, they will not roll over to the following year. You will lose them as soon as that calendar page flips.

Deductible. The deductible is the amount of out-of-pocket money you must pay to your dentist before your insurance provider pays for any services. As soon as 2022 arrives, your plan requires you to meet that deductible again.

Premiums. If you are paying your dental insurance premiums by the month, you should also use your benefits. Even if you have healthy teeth and don’t require treatment at this time, your regular cleanings and exams are usually covered at 100 per cent.

Fee Increases. Another reason to take advantage of your dental benefits before the year ends is the possible fee increase. Most of these increases occur at the start of every year.

Dental Problems Can Worsen. By delaying dental treatment now, you risk more extensive and expensive treatment. What may be a simple cavity now could turn into a root canal problem later and maybe even lead to tooth loss.

• Prevention is indeed better than cure both for your health and your pocketbook. Most dental insurance plans typically pay 100% for preventive visits, so this may be an excellent time to schedule one if you have not had one yet.
• Start thinking about using your coverage early. Talk to your dentist about your dental needs and what treatment you might need before the year ends during a dental appointment. Schedule any upcoming appointments early so you can take care of them before the holidays.
• Once you have determined your dental needs, work with your dentist and dental insurance provider to figure out what is covered.
