How often should I see my dentist?
All patients – children, teens, adults, and seniors – should visit a dentist for routine check-ups at least twice a year. Patients who are at higher risk for gum disease or oral cancer require more frequent visits. Your dentist will let you know how often you should visit.

We aim to provide patients of all ages with a pain-free, comfortable and pleasant dental experience.

That’s why we have developed unique services to make sure that you leave with a good, positive feeling after your visit with us.

I have a cracked tooth. Will it get better?
Cracked teeth will never heal but they can be fixed. Even if a cracked tooth has a dental crown, there is a small possibility that the crack will get worse. However, many cracks can be fixed with root canal treatment or tooth extraction, depending on the degree of the damage.
Which bleaching method is the most effective?
At Cardiff Dental, we believe that, with our many years of experience and knowledge in tooth whitening, a combination of laser whitening and take home whitening kits are the most effective methods of brightening stained teeth.

For more information, visit our teeth whitening page.

Why do you need to take X-rays for tooth extraction procedures?
The law requires dental professionals to take X-rays before performing dental extraction. This is to show patients the location of the nerves or if the tooth has curved roots or infections. Without taking X-rays, there is a possibility of multiple complications, which X-rays can prevented.
Do you have any solutions for uneven teeth?
Possible solutions for uneven teeth include a gum lift, porcelain veneers or a custom night guard if you’re a tooth grinder. Once you have a smile consultation with us, we can determine the treatment that best suits you.
What are your treatment options for gum disease?
Gum disease can be a deadly health problem if left untreated for a long time. At Cardiff Dental, one of our areas of specialties is addressing problems related to periodontal health. Whether you are suffering from bleeding gums or receding gums we have the solution.

For early stages of gum disease, the treatment may involve regular dental check-ups at least twice a year and a professional dental cleaning.

If gum disease has already advanced to periodontitis, the dentist will perform scaling and root planning to treat diseased periodontal pockets and infection to the gums. Laser treatments may also be needed to remove tartar deposits.

Other recommended treatments for moderate to severe periodontitis include gingival flap surgery to reduce periodontal pockets, and bone grafting to restore lost bone.

Does it hurt to get dental braces?
At first, you will feel some soreness, which is normal directly after getting braces, but after your lips and cheeks get used to the wires and brackets, there will be no discomfort at all.

For more information about dental braces, visit our orthodontics page.

If have dental braces, do I still need to see the dentist every six months?
Yes. It’s crucial for orthodontic patients to visit their dentist on a regular basis. People with fixed braces can be at risk of tooth decay and gum disease if their teeth are not cleaned properly. For this reason, your dentist will monitor your treatment and keep your teeth clean and healthy while you have your braces.
