10 Interesting Factoids About Your Teeth

The modern world goes by, to quite Shakespeare, with a lot of “sound and fury”. It can be difficult to make an escape from being the target of some advertising campaign or the other.

In this hectic environment the professionals at Cardiff Dental are happy to offer you a small diversion. So enjoy this random (more or less) list of dental myths without having to think about paying for anything!

Some dental myths revolve around how to cure a toothache and they can be quite amusing.

    • Probably the most amusing myth involves kissing a donkey or donkey-like creature. The myth claims that such a smooch will cure a toothache. Of course that myth is FALSE!

The only donkey that could help your toothache would have to work in a dental office and because donkeys don’t have hands and fingers, they almost never do! While donkeys cannot help you, a trip to Cardiff Dental is a great first step towards curing a toothache.

  • A partially accurate myth is that Salt has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It can reduce inflammation, ease pain, draw out any infection and prevent growth of bacteria in the mouth. So it is possible that salt can offer temporary relief from the pain of a toothache. But salt has no effect of a toothache, and a visit to the dentist is always your best choice.
  • Another example of a NOT recommended myth is that placing an aspirin on a sore tooth is better than swallowing the aspirin. Aspirin placed on or near your tooth will not help a toothache any more than placing an aspirin on the top of your head will help a headache! Worse, aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) can cause swelling in soft tissues, complicate dental issues and cause burns in the mouth.

At Cardiff Dental, our goal is to make quality dental care affordable for toothaches and ALL dental prevention and treatment. We also encourage you to look at the variety of special offers for our patients.
